Memory Book

The memory book project took me about 3 weeks overall. The tutorials took the longest amount of time because they had a lot of steps and details to make them look correct. Making the memory book wasn't too difficult for me due to the fact that I am in yearbook and already knew how to use InDesign. I chose to use a photo of me with my dad for the front and one with my mom for the back cover because they are two of the most  influential people in my life and I wanted to include them both. I chose my color scheme by picking some of my favorite colors that went well together. All in all, I really enjoyed this project and am glad we ended the year on InDesign.

This tutorial was pretty simple and only took me about 1 1/2 class periods. Most of this tutorial was focused around changing text color, leading, and font to make the magazine cover more appealing. I didn't have trouble with any of the steps and the tutorial didn't take very long so overall I really enjoyed it. It was simple and a good introduction to how to use indesign.

Eco Ad

I didn't think this project was too hard, but I definitely didn't think it was super easy either. The tutorial asked me to do some things that I either couldn't find or didn't understand the instructions. Also it was difficult to know how to draw the curve because the example picture was too dark to see. Most of this assignment consisted of changing the look of text to allow it to all fit in the frames and look presentable and easy to read.

Exploration Poster

This was a good tutorial on how many of the tools in InDesign work. It was very simple and only took me a few minutes. Mostly I just changed the size of text and learned how to use tools that change different things about the text. I also added an orange line underneath the text to connect the E & N.

Scrapbook Page

I decided to make a triangular banner at the top of the scrapbook page because I thought it was cute and girly as well as celebratory for finishing another school year. I chose my colors by using kuler.com and finding a theme of colors I liked together. I actually picked colors from 3 different themes, but still think they fit well together. I chose to write "celebrate memories" at the top and "2014" on the banner because I think they fit well together and both evoke the same feeling and tone. I chose to line up three black boxes in a row on the bottom to keep it simple, but allow room for mulitple photos.

Photo Frames

I chose to do the two photo frames on pictures of my siblings because I have a lot of pictures with my siblings and am going to have a different photo effect on each one on the page. I chose to do the polaroid photo one because I liked the effect and the way it looked and wanted to try it. Accomplishing the effect was very easy and was mostly done in just duplicated layers and moving them around. I also chose to do the puzzle piece frame because it was unique and looked really cool. The puzzle piece frame was actually really easy as well and only took me a few minutes. I used the texture>texturizer>puzzle layout and then just modified settings to how i wanted it to look. I then used the pen tool to cut out a puzzle piece and mpve it to a different angle to give it the effect of falling into place/

Curl Photo

The curl effect was actually a very simple one to accomplish. The first thing I did was use the rectangular marquee tool to select the bottom left hand corner where I wanted the curl to be. I then filled it with black to white gradient to give the bottom of the picture color. I then used the warp tool to give the effect that the bottom left hand corner of the photo was folding over. I chose to use this picture for the curl effect because I am going to do an entire page on my best friends and want this to be one of the main photos. On my best friend page, I am going to use 4 photos and curl all of them so I decided to do the tutorial on this one so I could already have one of the 4 photos finished.

Polaroid Photo

Tape Photo

This was pretty easy and only took me about 10 minutes. I chose to use this picture because it is going to be the only photo on its page or one of the only 2-3, so I chose to do the tape on this one so it will stand out when in my book. To accomplish the tape effect, I used the rectangle tool to draw the original tape shape, and then after I used the brush tool to brush the effect on the tape, I used the eraser to erase the extra paint. I then put a drop shadow on the tape to add another effect.

Picture This is a store that sells cameras mostly targeted at moms and other women who love to "capture little moments." The stores main goal is to show moms that cameras have much better quality and are better to treasure life's precious memories of their children. This ad would be placed in the "Parents" magazine to catch the attention of moms and dads everywhere to show them that Picture This sells the best quality cameras for remembering all of the little moments they find so dear. To accomplish the design of this advertisement, I first had to find pictures that would appeal to mom's and other young men and women in need of a new camera. To do this, I went to Pinterest, a favorite website of moms everywhere, and quickly found pictures that would catch their attention. In order to make the pictures look like Polaroids, I simply created a new 350px x 350px document and placed the pictures on it. I then adjusted the size of the photos on the backgrounds so it looked like a Polaroid photo. I then placed them on a wooden background to give the effect of pictures scattered on a table. I then researched most successful fonts for advertisements and decided to use Bodoni. I then added typography and a few other finishing touches and then resulted in this ad to help sell more of Picture This' quality cameras to parents all over the U.S. who just want to capture more of life's little moments.

Perfume Ad

For this ad I chose to put my face across the entire page because in many magazines and other places with ads, the model occupies a large area of the the ad to show the audience that if this famous person uses the product, they should too. I wanted to display this same effect in my own ad. To accomplish this effect, I mostly used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out my face and the perfume bottle and then used the layers panel to stack different pieces on top of eachother.

Color and Black & White Glamour Shot

For this assignment I started out by desaturating the entire picture. I then used the history brush to paint the area, in the case my shirt, that I wanted to be in color.

High Pass Model Shot

This tutorial sharpened the image a little and gave it a grunge effect by adjusting the high pass values. This tutorial was very easy, but kind of difficult to add enough high pass without it being too sharp.

Sepia Glamour Shot

This tutorial was easy and accomplished in just a few clicks of the mouse. First, I desaturated the picture and made sure it was in RGB color mode. Then I adjusted the fine & course slider and then added more yellow and more red to the picture from the variations panel.

Vignette Model Shot

This was really easy. I just drew a circle with the circle marquee tool and adjusted brightness amounts.

Focused Shot

For this tutorial, I blurred the background of the picture around my face. This tutorial was really easy and just used gaussian blur and the brush tool the accomplish the effect.

Self Makeover

While editing my face, at first I had no idea what I wanted to change, but after working on it for a few minutes, I easily found many items I wanted to change. A major thing I wanted ti change was the bags under my eyes that formed when I smile. I remembered doing the wrinkle remover tutorial so I went and found that and was able to easily remove the bags with the healing brush tool. Then I changed my eye color to a dark green and added a dark brown eye shadow since I don't really wear makeup in real life. I also removed a few stray hairs on my shoulder towards the right of the picture. Removing hairs was really easy and I just used the content aware options to remove it and replace it with the color of my shirt. Then I whitened my teeth and eye whites slightly using the dodge tool. The last thing I did was lighten a few areas of the skin around my mouth with the spot healing brush tool.

Skin Tone

This tutorial was another quick and easy one. The first thing I did to accomplish this tutorial was select the girl's cheek to the left of the picture with the lasso tool, and then I used the eyedropper tool to select the color I wanted to fill her cheek with and then used a paintbrush to paint it onto her cheek. When I finished it, I then did the same thing with the girl's other cheek.

Wrinkle Removal

To accomplish this tutorial, I used the healing brush tool. This tutorial was very similar to the spot healing brush tutorial on removing acne on a girl's face. This tutorial required me to ALT-click on a clear spot near a wrinkle and then paint over the wrinkles to eliminate them. This only took a few seconds, but the change it made is drastic.

Whitening Teeth

In this tutorial, I chose to do method 1. In method 1, I used the dodge tool in midtones range with 50% exposure to paint the teeth to look white. This tutorial was really easy and just took  a few minutes.

Eye Makeup

Once again this tutorial was an easy way to change something on a picture in just a matter of minutes. This action was done mostly by brushes and blend modes which are both things I have used before, keeping it really easy to accomplish.

Changing Hair Color

This tutorial was another quick and easy one. To accomplish this effect, I had to go into quick mask mode which I had never done before. While in quick mask mode, I painted the strands of hair I wanted to use. Then I exited quick mask mode and adjusted hue and saturation values to change the color of the hair.

Modifying Nose (profile)

This tutorial was easy and only took a few minutes. I liked it because once again, it was cool to learn how to use a new tool to easily and quickly modify something about a photo. I had never used the pucker tool before so it was neat to learn something new.

Content-Aware Options

This tutorial was probably one of the easiest ones we've done all year. It took just a matter of minutes and really only required a few clicks of the mouse to accomplish. Also the content aware option was really cool to see how easy it was to get rid of unwanted objects in the photo.

Spot Healing Brush

This tutorial was pretty easy and fun. I really liked doing this tutorial because it was really cool to see how easy you could change the picture and get rid of all the girl's acne. I had never used the spot healing brush before so I'm glad I learned how.

Clone Stamp Tool

The clone stamp tool tutorials were pretty easy, but definitely not my favorite. The truck tutorial was easy and only took about 5 minutes because all I had to clone was the truck and enter offset values to allow it to be smaller. The pisa tutorial was much harder and more frustrating because I had to fix the people and buildings so they looked correctly and that was difficult for me to do.
